Samsung Electronics will close its Taiwanese manufacturing plants in Taipei and its Singapore manufacturing plants by the end of the year, the company said in a statement on Friday.
The Taiwanese companies will not reopen their Taiwanese manufacturing operations until they have completed their work to ensure the quality of the products, the statement said.
The announcement comes after the US announced it will allow imports of Samsung electronic products from China.
Samsung Electronics is the world’s largest manufacturer of electronic products.
Shares of Samsung Electronics fell 2.5% on the New York Stock Exchange in Taiyuan after the announcement.
Apple Inc is expected to announce a plan on Thursday to shift manufacturing from China to the United States.
